Grading Policy

Grade of “A” – this grade is typically assigned to a student who demonstrates excellent knowledge and comprehension of the material presented in the study. This student has good ability to apply their knowledge (the extent of expected application depends on the content of the study, check the learning contract for the study to see expectations for application). In introductory level studies, the student has demonstrated some limited critical thinking (analysis, synthesis, and evaluation) and in advanced level more extensive levels of critical thinking are expected.

Grade of “A-“ – this grade is typically assigned to a student who comes very close to a grade of “A”, but does not quite make the expected levels for either knowledge, comprehension, application, or critical thinking skills.

Grade of “B” – this grade is typically assigned to a student who demonstrates very good knowledge and comprehension of the material presented in the study. This student has some ability to apply their knowledge (again the extent of application depends to some extent on the content of the study). In introductory levels studies, the student has demonstrated limited critical thinking (analysis, synthesis, and evaluation) and in advanced level studies, as least good levels of critical thinking are expected.

Grade of “B+” – this grade is given to the student who slightly exceeds the criteria for a “B”.

Grade of “B-“ – this grade is given to the student who is close, but not quite as proficient as “B” quality work.

Grade of “C” – this grade is given to the student who demonstrates good levels of knowledge and comprehension of the material presented in the study. This student has minimal ability to apply their knowledge (the extent again depends on the content of the study). In introductory level studies, little evidence of critical thinking may be evident, and in advanced level studies, only some evidence of critical thinking may be observed.

Grade of “C+” – this grade is given to the student who slightly exceeds the criteria for a “C”.

Grade of “C-“ – this grade is given to the student who approaches, but does not quite meet the criteria for a “C”.

Grade of “D” – this grade is given to the student who demonstrates minimal knowledge and comprehension of the information in the study. There is little or no ability to apply the information (again the extent of expectation for application depends on the study). In introductory level studies, there is usually no evidence of critical thinking and little or no evidence in advanced level studies.

Grade of “D+” – this grade is given to students who slightly exceed the expectations for a “D”.

Grade of “D-“ – this grade is given to the student who comes near, but does not quite meet the criteria for a “D”.

Grade of “F” – this grade is given to a student who demonstrates little knowledge or comprehension of the information in the study, no ability to apply the information, and no evidence of critical thinking at either the introductory or advanced study-level expectations.
