My interests in wisdom when I began to see the connections with motivation, critical thinking, and self-directed learning. These interests have led to several presentations, available below.
There are at least two types of wisdom. The first type is a philosophical type of wisdom which involves understanding the meaning of life and great truths of the human existence. I see this as one form of wisdom, but I believe wisdom can exist in many other fields of knowledge and experiences, including practical situations.
Wisdom is a difficult concept to either define or measure, but I believe that wisdom develops when an individual has certain attributes and certain opportunities. Attributes I would connect to wisdom include critical thinking ability to reflect on learning in order to reach the level where you would have wisdom and motivation to share your knowledge with others. I believe individuals with wisdom are motivated beyond improvements in their own situation or performance, that they must also interested in assisting others to be more successful. In relation to opportunities, I believe those with wisdom must have a chance to gain information and experience over time while reflecting on those learning processes in order to develop wisdom within a knowledge area. I think an understanding of the complexity within the area of wisdom is another facet of this concept. I will continue to explore and learn more about wisdom.
